The Bellagio installed plexiglass dividers between players, giving the poker room an advantage over its competitors in Las Vegas. The other poker rooms can only host five-handed games according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s guidelines.
With the dividers, it is optional for players to wear masksas opposed to other rooms where wearing them is a must.
Usually, casino poker games require nine to ten players pertable.
Different poker rooms have responded with varied courses ofaction. While one is sticking to five-handed games, another is installing itsdividers to permit six-handed games. Yet, another room is hoping to getapproval for six-handed games without the dividers.
Poker rooms were full of action throughout the weekend,regardless of the number of players participating at the tables.
Mike Williams, the Bellagio director of poker operations, said the company was very happy to open. He liked the positive response they had.
Open 24/7, the room was running more than 15 games at atime all Saturday. Sometimes, it was running at least 20.
Unfortunately, Bellagio poker room’s high-stakes area,Bobby’s Room, was empty on that day. Williams hoped to see the return of thebig games because the room was ready.
The Orleans also wants to have plexiglass that resembles Bellagio’s. Garrett Okahara, the poker room manager, said they had already ordered the dividers and are set to install them by the end of the week.
After reopening on June 4, the Orleans ran at least 20games from Saturday afternoon till evening. The room opens daily from 8 am to 4am.
Okahara said he expected unusually high demand on thereopening. However, the demand has exceeded his expectations. He feels sixplayers will make it better.
Caesars Palace will stick to five-handed games. Ryan Bishop, the executive in charge of the room, said there was no need for installing the dividers. He added that they were getting good business without them and the players were happy.
Open from 10 am through 2 am Thursday to Sunday, Caesars was hosting 10-15 games throughout Saturday. The room reopened on Thursday.
The South Point hopes to get approval to host six-handedgames without the dividers. Jason Sanborn, the poker room manager, said thecasino had requested for six-handed, noting that the new mask requirement, whichwas not a must before, means plexiglass won’t be needful.

He said the Gaming Control Board’s new guidelines mean thatmasks are equal to plexiglass. So, he feels going six without them is okay.

Poker in South Florida received a big boost this weekend as both the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino properties in Hollywood and Coconut Creek reopened their doors on Friday, June 12.

The properties, which have been closed since March 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, opened under “Safe+Sound” guidelines, which include guests being required to wear a mask, temperature screenings, and a 50 percent max occupancy.
For poker players, the following precautions and procedures will be in place:
- The poker room will run 25 of their 45 tables
- Active tables will feature Plexiglass dividers
- All games will be played max six-handed
- Both players and staff will be required to wear masks
- Cards and chips will be cleaned on a regular basis
- Food not permitted in the poker room. Players can request a 60-minute dinner break.
- One table or seat change allowed per session

Both Seminole properties have host prolific tournament series including Seminole Showdowns, World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit stops, and Moneymaker's Road to PSPC. The reopening come about three weeks after their sister property, Hard Rock Tampa, resumed their operations on May 21.
'Major tournament series for Seminole Hard Rock Poker have been well-established globally over the last 10 years,' the poker team at Seminole Gaming told PokerNews. 'When the time is right, these series will return with the same first-class experience that the players have come to know and love.'
The Hard Rock Tampa poker room, which opened under the same guidelines outlines above, saw an immediate demand as poker players not only flocked to the tables, but were willing to put their names on long waiting lists.
'The opening of poker at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa went extremely well. It has been open for over three weeks and the tables remain full, with lists,' the Seminole poker team added. 'Much of the credit goes to Director of Poker Operations, Pablo Perez.'
All Seminole Hard Rock properties have also been equipped with air purification and disinfecting systems
“The health and safety of our team members and guests has always been of upmost importance to our senior leadership team and Tribal Council,” Seminole Hard Rock said in a statement. “We want to make sure that we are doing everything that we can to provide a safe environment for our team members and you, our loyal customers.”
It continued: “As information is changing rapidly and we are learning more daily about COVID-19 and how to stop the spread, we will continue to regularly update the Safe+Sound protocols based on facts and data provided by our partners, industry councils, as well as global and governmental agencies.”
